EFTPS: The Electronic Federal Tax Payment System, or for payments with cards, or digital
wallet, or from a mobile device. When you pay electronically, you can schedule your
payment in advance. You will receive an instant confirmation once the payment is
complete. You can choose to receive email notices about your payments. The IRS uses
the latest encryption technology, which makes electronic payments secure. It’s easy
and faster than mailing your check or money order.

EFTPS:

It is an electronic system for federal tax payments provided free of charge by the United
States Department of the Treasury. With EFTPS you can conveniently pay taxes online or
by phone from anywhere, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It’s quick and
easy, with step-by-step instructions that help you make payments in just a few minutes. It
also ensures accuracy and reduces penalties by letting you schedule payments in
advance and review information throughout the process.
By making your electronic federal tax payment using three items of identification, your
confidentiality is safeguarded and your information is secured. Using your taxpayer
identification number (employer identification number (EIN) or Social Security number
(SSN)), personal identification number (PIN), and an Internet password, in conjunction
with a secure Internet browser, increases your security.

In order to use this electronic tax payment service, you need to be registered in the
system.
You have two options for signing up for EFTPS — both are free:

  • Online: You can enroll with step-by-step instructions on the EFTPS.gov website. You will
    receive a Personal Identification Number (PIN) in the mail within five to seven
    business days.
  • By phone: Call 1.888.725.7879, Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 6:00pm (Eastern Time) to
    request an enrollment form by mail. You will receive a PIN within seven business
    days after EFTPS receives the completed enrollment form.
